An Introduction to the Birds of Tropical America

    Piciformes - Puffbirds

Puffbirds are songbird-sized (or slighly larger) birds in the woodpecker Piciformes order. They are best known for their sedentary nature, preferring to wait for prey items to come near them. When you can find one, they are generally easy to photograph, although some species remain high in the canopy.
